Following on from the success of last season, this Saturday sees Portarlington RFC become the centre of girls’ rugby in the North East with seven teams from Offaly, Laois, Navan, Kildare, Dublin and Meath will converge on the County Laois venue for the opening blitz of the season…
Up to 160 girls will be present on the day, many playing their first games of rugby. There will be two separate competitions, with four teams in the U18 category and five teams in the U15 group.
With regional leagues starting in a few weeks this will allow coaches and players to prepare for more competitive action. Women’s development officer Jennie Bagnall will also be in attendance keeping an eye on the progress of girls’ rugby in the province. With so many new clubs in attendance and numbers growing in existing clubs the future of girls’ rugby in Leinster is certainly looking bright.
Best of luck to all the girls participating tomorrow!
