Leinster Rugby is proud to support its four Official Charities for the 2009/10 Season. Leinster Rugby will be working hard with all four Charities throughout the coming Season on several initiatives to help raise awareness and funds for the respective causes. We ask you to keep an eye out for these initiatives and support them.
Due to the volume of requests Leinster receives, we can only support the four Official Charities as outlined below.

Welcome HomeWelcome Home is a registered charity which has been raising funds exclusively for Fr. Peter McVerry since 1990. The charity raises funds through a number of events each year. The Welcome Home Golf Classic and Wexford Cycle were started in 1990 and remain the two main events of the year. Both are always well supported and attract a regular support. The Wexford Cycle has increased hugely in popularity over the last three years with an average of over 400 cyclists per year taking part who raise sponsorship money in support of Welcome Home. Two new events have been added to the calendar in 2007 – the Welcome Home Lunch and Welcome Home midsummer Walk. The charity also receives numerous donations through the website. |

Irish Heart FoundationThe Irish Heart Foundation is Ireland's only national charity for heart health and it is 93 per cent funded by public donations. Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer in Ireland – ahead of cancer, road deaths and suicide combined. Almost 10,000 people die in Ireland from it annually – that’s 27 deaths EVERY DAY in Ireland. Our mission is to improve the cardiovascular health of people living in Ireland so they live long and healthy lives. Thanks to support from the public, our charity can:- give vital support to families through our national helpline 1890 432 787, website; help children to have healthy hearts through our physical activity programmes in schools; be there for patients through our support groups; fund vital heart and stroke research; advocate better patient services so that you and your loved ones receive the best treatment quickly and efficiently; provide health checks to employees; co-ordinate lifesaving CPR and defibrillator skills around the country to save lives. Each year we reach 420,000 people through our information and patient leaflets. Through our CPR for Schools Programme, in May 2009 we gave every Transition Year student in Ireland a self-instructional CPR kit which teaches the lifesaving skill in 25 minutes. They in turn will teach their families and help us reach our target to train 80,000 members of the public – the capacity of Croke Park – by the end of 2009 Every month in Ireland about 400 people suffer a cardiac arrest. On average, only four people survive. At the Irish Heart Foundation, we want to turn transition year students into lifesavers… because with 80,000 more people equipped with CPR skills, we will save more lives every single year. |
