This week Old Wesley RFC U12 will play Seapoint RFC at the Wesley end. Meanwhile, Greystones RFC will face Wicklow RFC in an U16 girl's half time game at the Bective Rangers end of the stadium. These half time games are often considered a milestone for these underage teams as they get to share the pitch with their rugby heroes, something that they will talk about in years to come.
Last season, a total of 56 teams showcased their enthusiasm and skills at a Leinster match. Not only do the teams play at half time but they also receive Bank of Ireland goody bags as well as getting their pictures taken with Leinster Players before kick-off.
At the Aviva Clermont game last year, the stadium welcomed our new special needs club teams which we hope will become an annual thing. Rumour has it that we could have more special needs teams this season from Enniscorthy, Mullingar, Naas and Portlaoise.
This Friday in Donnybrook will see our first four mini's teams gearing up to cheer on the boys in blue and to take part in a memorable experience. Old Wesley RFC will be showcasing the three trophies that Leinster won last season; The Amlin Challenge Cup, RaboDirect PRO12 and The British & Irish Cup so remember to bring along your camera!
This season we hope to increase the number of teams involved at half time and promote the developing areas such as girl's rugby and more recently, special needs rugby. Ian Murray, Sponsorship Manager, Bank of Ireland added, 'An important part of our sponsorship is the half time mini rugby exhibition which enables thousands of children to experience the thrill of match day by running out on the same pitch as their heroes. It is inspiring for the young players and supporters of Leinster in developing the next generation of rugby players and supporters and sustaining the development of the game'.
Along with our sponsor, Bank of Ireland, we look forward to continued success of the Leinster senior teams and to cheering on our half time Magic Mini's.
Tickets are still available HERE for the Northampton game tomorrow in Donnybrook (KO: 7pm).
