Railway’s Girls U18 team begin their Leinster South East league campaign on 28th September with a home fixture against Wexford…

This new regional league will run until end of November and the results will determine qualification to the appropriate Leinster League division with other teams from the two other regional conferences in Leinster.

Railway’s Head of Girls Rugby Alison Nolan said she was looking forward to the beginning of the league.
For many of the girls involved, this will be their first competitive rugby outing. We have excellent coaches in Mere Baker, who’s one of the most decorated female players in the game, Blaise Kenny and Barry Kiely, so for girls taking up rugby for the first time or girls looking to improve, the quality of coaching they will get will be second to none,” said Nolan.

Interspersed in the initial league campaign will be trials for Leinster U18 team, as well as Leinster training and the interprovincial series.
As well as Leinster, there will also be further opportunities on the rugby 7s side, particularly as Ireland begins to enter more international age-grade tournaments. We had two girls in training squad for Irish U19 7s team in Stacey Flood and Emma Murphy, with Emma participating in a recent UK tournament. Both girls have just taken up rugby, which shows the massive opportunities for girls in an Olympic sport and the ability of our coaches to help girls to reach their potential,” concluded Nolan.

Training takes place on every Tuesday at 5.30pm to 6.30pm and new players are especially welcome. To be considered U18 for the 2013/14 season, a girl must have been born on or after 1st July 1995 (but not after 30th June 1998).
