Edenderry Rugby Club recently hosted a local schools tag rugby blitz organised by Leinster Rugby CCRO (Club Community Rugby Officer) Grainne Vaugh. Ten local schools from the area got involved with teams from 3rd to 6th class participating on the day.

There were 17 teams in total that took part in the school tag rugby blitz and all showed the skills they have learned from taking part in the Leinster Branch school programme delivered by Grainne throughout the year.

With credit to their schools, the children brilliantly defended their lines, passed among their team, made great attacking breaks, and of course scored some wonderful tries, while having lots of fun on the pitch. Although it was a cold morning, this did not stop the pupils from togging out and grabbing the ball with both hands.

“With some great rugby on display, hopefully these children will continue to play in their local club, Edenderry RFC,” said Grainne.

The schools that took part on the day were; St Mary’s Broadford, Cadamstown National School, St Ciaran’s Castlejordan, Clocha Rince Primary School, St Patrick’s Clonbullogue, St Conleth’s Derrinturn, St Oliver Plunkett’s Killina, Scoil San Treasa Kilshanroe, Scoil Bhride Edenderry and Scoil Bhride Ticknevin.

Grainne and Leinster Rugby would like to thank all the children, teachers and parents from the schools involved, Edenderry RFC for the use of their facilities, members of Edenderry Ladies and U18 girls team for their help refereeing and Patsy Gorman the local Leinster Rugby CRO (Community Rugby Officer) for his help in organising the event.
