This week 1,748 boys and girls took to the rugby pitches around the province to compete in blitzes run by Leinster Rugby Community Rugby Officers (CROs), with the help of local county councils.
The tag rugby blitzes were held in seven venues around the province: Tallaght Stadium (450 kids), Athy RFC (140), North Kildare RFC (260), DLSP (250), Blackrock College RFC (300), Longford RFC (200) and Caragh National School, Naas (150).
Over the past few months, pupils prepared for blitzes with the help of Leinster Rugby Club Community Rugby Officers (CCROs), training and perfecting the rugby skills they learned through the tag rugby programme in their schools.
All participants showed great commitment preparing for the big day and it really showed on the pitch with a high level of skill and sportsmanship, and plenty of fun had by everyone throughout the week.
Thanks must go to all the principals and staff from each of the schools for attending the blitzes and helping to make each day a huge success.
Well done to the pupils for togging out and turning all the rugby blitzes into both competitive and fun events, enjoyed by the teachers and parents in attendance.
If any schools or youth clubs would like to participate in the tag rugby programme please contact the Community Rugby Officer for your area.
