Over 200 Players enjoy Disability Tag Rugby Blitz at Terenure College RFC

Over 200 players enjoyed a Disability Tag Rugby blitz in Terenure College RFC recently hosted by the Terenure College RFC Tigers.

The Tigers were set up four years ago and now have one of the biggest squads in the country.

Two-hundred players from Westmanstown RFC, Cill Dara RFC, Seapoint RC, New Ross RFC, Coolmine RFC and DLSP RFC took part in the blitz.

The blitz provided a perfect platform for the players from all the clubs to come together to enjoy their rugby, make new friends and, most importantly, have fun.

The blitz, which was run by Bernard Molloy and his coaching team from Terenure College RFC, is a fantastic example of the magnificent work the coaches have been doing with the teams all season with a super skill level on show.

Ireland Head Coach Joe Schmidt also made a surprise appearance, with all the players getting a photo with the former Leinster Rugby head coach, to bring an end to a great day.

The aim of the Disability Tag Rugby programme is to integrate as many players into the game of rugby, as members of existing rugby clubs.

To assist clubs in this area many resources have been developed based on current best practice and advice from clubs that already are involved and have disability rugby teams.

Stephen Gore, Leinster Rugby Spirit Officer said: “The blitz was very well run; Bernard and his team in Terenure did a fantastic job ensuring the day ran smoothly and that all players got plenty of game time. All needs were catered for, not only on the pitch but also the food the club supplied for everyone.

“To have Ireland Coach Joe Schmidt make a guest appearance really topped it off for all the players and supporters. I would like to congratulate Bernard and all at Terenure for the fantastic event.”
