Last week in Ringsend Stadium over 450 5th and 6th class students from primary schools across Dublin city compete in a tag rugby blitz hosted by Leinster Rugby CROs (Community Rugby Officers).
Among the schools that attended were St Louis (Rathmines), Our Lady’s NS (Dundrum), Holy Family (Tallaght), Lucan East Educate Together, Gaelscoil Naomh Pádraig, St Brigid’s (Donnybrook), St Olaf’s (Dundrum), St Mary’s (Booterstown), Our Lady Immaculate Darndale, St Brigid’s (Killester), Howth Road NS and Terenure Junior School.
Over the past few months pupils prepared for the blitz with the help of the Leinster Rugby Community Rugby Officers, training and perfecting the rugby skills they learned through the tag rugby programme in their schools.
All participants showed great commitment preparing for the big day and it really showed on the pitch with a high level of skill and sportsmanship, and plenty of fun had by everyone on the day.
Thanks must go to the principals and staff from each of the schools for attending the blitz and helping to make the day a huge success.
Thank you also to the pupils for togging out and turning the day into both a competitive and good-natured event, enjoyed by the teachers and parents in attendance.
If any schools or youth clubs in the Metro area would like to participate in the tag rugby programme please contact the following Community Rugby Officers:
