The first Leinster Metro stage 1 Coach Development Tackle Technique workshop was held recently in Coolmine RFC. The cold/dark night did not dampen the spirits of the 50 coaches that attended from over 10 different clubs in the metro area.
This coaching initiative was undertaken in order to help and provide ideas for all Leinster Rugby affiliate club coaches in the area. This Tackle Technique initiative is been run by Leinster Rugby Metro CRO (Community Rugby Officer) and CCRO (Club Community Rugby Officer). The aim of the workshop was to show coaches how to integrate different variants of tackling into their sessions, be it from identifying problem areas in contact through games or to help build a young players confidence in making a tackle. The approach taken was through mainly game-based scenarios, putting the emphasis on the tackle area as opposed to scoring.
The coaches on the night took an active part in each part of the training session; some coaches found out that they “Haven’t lost it”. It was a very active session throughout, both during the games and in the discussions after. All the coaches that attended fully embraced what they were asked to do and are a credit to their clubs and to the kids they are coaching.
