The Leinster Rugby summer programmes, proudly sponsored by Bank of Ireland, have been a huge hit again this year on rugby pitches throughout the 12 counties, with over 4,570 girls and boys taking part.

As travelling restrictions lifted, we welcomed back the many different nationalities who come to our summer programme.

This summer, Leinster Rugby, along with our host venues, were able offer seven weeks of summer camps. 45 successful camps took place over summer 2022.

Leinster Rugby hosted four different types of camps throughout the summer,

  • Summer Camps
  • Inclusion Camps
  • School of Excellence
  • Language Camps

Along with our own Leinster Rugby camps, this summer our Community Rugby Officers worked alongside some of our county councils sports camps throughout the province, to deliver the rugby section of these sports camps.

The camps were managed by Ray McCabe, Stephen Maher and Billy Phelan and they had a massive team of Leinster Rugby coaches helping them to cater for the 4,570 attendees.

Some of the headline stats from those camps include:

  • 30 Summer Camps were held for children aged six to 12
  • 3,030 children attended the 28 Summer Camps
  • 120 children attended the first ever Inclusion Camps
  • Over 190 international students (from France, Spain, Italy, UAE, Romania, Belgium and Switzerland to name but a few) attended our three Language Camps
  • All of our camps are open to girls and boys
  • Over 1,230 attended our four week-long residential and non-residential School of Excellence Camps

Speaking after the publication of the Summer Programme 2022 Report, Declan Fassbender, the Community Rugby Manager for Leinster Rugby said, “This summer returned to the summers we knew. Over 4,500 kids running around hailing from all corners of the 12 counties and beyond!

“It was really lovely to see and hear that throughout the summer – with travelling restrictions gone – we welcomed back the many different nationalities who come to the summer programme to make new friends and develop their game the Leinster way.

“Another bumper year. Record numbers across all our camps this summer. Ray McCabe and Stephen Maher, the Programme Leaders – take a bow.”
