The Ashbourne community school 1st /2nd year team played their second match of the North East league recently against a strong Ardee Community School side…

Played on a dry calm Wednesday afternoon in Ardee the Ashbourne boys started well and had a try on the board in the 5th min courtesy of outstanding flanker Aaron Murphy however, the strength and size of the home team started to take its toll on the Ashbourne team and Ardee scored 3 quick tries in succession at the end of the 1st half.

Another 2 Tries immediately after the break to Ardee had Ashbourne under real pressure but all credit to the Ashbourne lads they rallied well and finished strongly with two late tries of their own to add some respectability the score line.

Coach and Leinster CCRO Scott Broughton said “we have had 18-22 lads training every Thursday and I am delighted with the attitude and application, we were just overpowered a bit today by a strong side but I was very proud of the way the boys fought back in the 2nd half“.

Scott would also like to thank Ashbourne rugby club coach Christy Skelly for his help on Thursday afternoons and also at the matches. Ashbourne’s next match is a home fixture against Boyne community school from Trim.
