On Thursday, 21st July Ardee Rugby Club switched on their new pitchside floodlights…

This project has been ongoing for the last two years, Gary Smith and Dan Malone researched the best possible package to suit their needs and when all the technical data and prices were agreed upon Alex McDonnell put forward planning application on behalf of the club, which was duly granted by Louth County Council.

The club’s next step was to arrange funding, this was spearheaded by Susan Shekleton who liaised with the Leinster Branch and worked out a loan package of €;50,000 which was approved after a formal presentation to the IRFU by delegates from the club, Enda Dunne (President), Susan Shekleton (Treasurer) and Liam Mullane (CCRO).

Electric Skyline were awarded the main contract and using subcontractors for the civils they had everything competed within three weeks.  The club was also delighted to have the lampposts supplied by Greenore based company Lamppost Construction.

This will give the club more flexibility to host matches and therefore achieve our next goal of fielding a second adult team this season.

Ardee are also fielding an Under-17’s team this season – contact Jimmy Reilly on 087-2935154. Mini’s rugby will kick off on Wednesday, 31st August with a registration night – see face book for further information (Ardee rugby club) or contact Liam on 087-7827251 or Martin on 087-1321659.
