Another name was added to the canon of Leinster Rugby playing schools when Ardgillan Community College played their first game this week…

It was no ordinary debut for the students as the opposition was a touring side, Clwb Rygbi Crymych RFC, a Pembrokeshire side who feed Llanelli Scarlets.

Despite the gulf in standard and ability the commitment shown by the Balbriggan based College meant that the game was competitive throughout. Hero of the hour went to Gareth Green who finished off a thrilling handling move to sprint home for the College’s first ever score.

Great credit goes to Conor Brennan and Paul Shields, teachers at the College who have conceived the project, and Leinster Rugby intern, Simon Lear, who has provided invaluable coaching help since September.
