The 2nd annual adult tag league in Ballymun drew to a close in Balcurris Park on Tuesday past with the final a hotly contested affair…
The league puts an emphasis on enjoyment and fun whilst still holding true to the fast, free flowing, exciting nature that has made tag rugby one of the most popular games in sport today. Over the course of five weeks, teams played out a league system with playoffs to conclude and in the end it was the Grass Kings, keen to defend their title, against Too Many Daves.
The Final was tight and came down to two excellent tries from Eoin McSweeney, one of the Unidare stalwarts on show, to claim victory for Too Many Daves. The league is fast becoming a fixture of the rugby off-season in the D9/D11 area and is another signal of the continued growth of Unidare RFC in the area since they have become resident in Balcurris Park.
Community Rugby Officer for the area, Colm Finnegan, was delighted to see the league grow, “what has been great this year is the increase in people from outside of the club, it shows the league building in popularity and also shows the increased awareness of the club in the area. It’s been a bumper year for Unidare who are going from strength to strength and are hoping to have U15s, U17s, U19s, and minis along with two men’s teams and a women’s tag rugby team for the coming year. This has only been possible due to all the help and interest from all the schools and people of the local area and hopefully these connections will continue for many years to come.”
