Ballymun Blitzes Going Strong…
April 20, 2011 12:00 am Richard Blake
A Tag Rugby blitz recently took place consisting of 2nd and 3rd class pupils from local Ballymun primary schools…
The schools involved were Holy Spirit Boys National School, St. Joseph’s National School, Our Lady of Victories Boys and Girls Schools and N.D.N.S.P.
Pupils were prepared for the blitz by Club Community Rugby Officer Michael Murray for the past 6 weeks. The schools, teachers and pupils showed great commitment preparing for the big day and it really showed with a high level of skill and sportsmanship.
With approximately 250 children participating, it was the biggest primary school tag rugby blitz this year in Leinster which shows just how much the Ballymun area has embraced the sport in their schools and clubs. This is the 3rd blitz that has taken part in the previous few months and interest continues to grow. It is hoped that pupils from the area will continue to carry on playing within the community and for local club side, Unidare R.F.C.
Special thank you to Haribo who provided treats for all the children and teachers on the day, Ballymun Regeneration, volunteers from Unidare R.F.C, Trinity Comprehensive School and Metroplex for their continued support to rugby in Ballymun.
