After the final first round tie in Donnybrook Stadium between Newbridge College and St Mary’s College took place, with the Kildare school come out on top 21-0, the quarter-final draw for the Bank of Ireland Leinster Schools Junior Cup took place in Old Wesley RFC.
Luke McGrath, a former St Michael’s man, and Jack Conan, a former St Gerard’s student, were on hand to draw out the teams.
After overcoming rivals Terenure College in the opening round, holders Blackrock were the first team out of the hat and were drawn against Gonzaga College.
‘Zaga will go into the tie with confidence after an impressive win over Gerard’s on Wednesday, but will come up against a school chasing a fifth Junior Cup title in a row.
Last year’s beaten finalists St Michael’s will face Kilkenny College, while Belvedere College will face Clongowes Wood College.
After they’re thrilling win over St Mary’s, Newbridge were drawn against Wesley College in the quarter-finals.
The Ballinteer school qualified for the Junior Cup via the Bank of Ireland Fr Godfrey Cup and will be hoping to continue their winning run and claim a place in the final four.
The dates and times for the Junior Cup quarter-final ties will be confirmed at a later date.
