The election was greeted with loud and sustained applause at the clubs AGM on Friday the 27th of June.
The genial and modest Optician was an extremely popular choice of the club’s membership and his standing in rugby terms is still seriously well respected among his peers.
Upon taking up the role, his opening remarks were, ‘I’m not one for making long speeches but, whenever I’m presented with a challenge, I apply nothing less than 200% to whatever it is I take on’.
Robbie went on to tell the meeting he was extremely honoured to be asked to take the club presidency.
He also thanked his predecessor, Reggie McHugh, whom, he said, was a tough act to follow.
