The Ulster Bank AIL Division 1A encounter between Old Belvedere and Blackrock took place at Anglesea Road last Saturday in atrocious weather conditions…

Old Belvedere won the match 10-9 having scored a try and conversion with three minutes to go.

It is customary to have the presentation of an important Trophy take place on the pitch immediately after the match. In this case, the weather and under-foot conditions were so dreadful that it was wisely decided to wait until all concerned were secure in the warmth of the clubhouse.

The Brendan Merry Trophy was presented to Blackrock College and Old Belvedere by the Merry family in memory of the late Brendan Merry, a former President of Old Belvedere.

Helen Gardner, Brendan and Evelyn Merry’s daughter, very kindly was available to present the trophy to Old Belvedere captain Andrew Dunne. This is the third time the trophy has been competed for and it marks a very significant connection of long standing between the two Dublin clubs.
