The Carlow Coyotes are a young, enthusiastic and dedicated ladies rugby team…
The Coyotes were established in the summer of 2011 as a result of the amalgamation of County Carlow Football Club and I.T Carlow, and it has turned out be to a very fruitful and successful amalgamation. The team is made up of many different levels of player, from complete novices to well-seasoned players all with one thing in common, their love of rugby.
After a very promising and exciting start to their existence the Coyotes reached the semi-final and in turn the final of the Leinster Division 4 league in December 2011. The Coyotes came up against their near neighbours Kilkenny in a very nail biting and eventful final, with extreme pressure put on both teams. The Coyotes were the ones who held out and eventually won the match 3-0. After an unremarkable start for the Coyotes in the league they then turned their hand to the Leinster Cup. They excelled in this competition also but were unfortunately beaten in the semi-finals by a far superior and more experienced Edenderry side.
After their tremendously rewarding first season the Coyotes were promoted to Division 2 where they were undefeated throughout the entire league. The final, against Old Belevedere was as exciting and as nerve stopping as the previous year’s final. Eventually the Coyotes held on again and won 6-5. Again their Cup pool games were very successful and the Coyotes made their way as far as the semi-finals but yet again their dreams of winning both League and Cup titles in the same year were dashed by the well-oiled Railway Union side.
In the summer of 2013 the Coyotes received the amazing and well deserved news that they were to play in the AIL Divison 2 Central for the 2013/2014 season. Both County Carlow Football Club and I.T Carlow received this news with open arms and relished the chance to prove once again that their decision to amalgamate was indeed the correct path to take. So far the Coyotes are proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in AIL Division 2 Central, while enjoying both their training and match schedules.
This is a highly competitive league and there are a number of teams well in contention with coming out on top. The Coyotes are holding their own and look forward to the rest of their season with a hope of more silverware at the end of what looks to be yet another extremely enjoyable season, full of hard hitting tackles and spectacular match winning tries.
