Clondalkin Rugby Club collected their first silverware of the season last Sunday as the under 13 side lifted the Chris Stapleton Cup…
The young Gordon Park side won the right to raise the trophy thanks to a stylish 10-5 victory over Northern outfit Dungannon.
Ben O’Connor piped a lot of competition from fellow Clondalkin players to be named man of what was a very entertaining match helping to inspire a win which enabled captain Thomas Duffy to lift the third annual Chris Stapleton Cup.
It was fitting the first trophy of what looks like a potentially silverware latent season the club collected was the Chris Stapleton Cup.
The Cup holds a lot of sentimental value in Gordon Park as it is contested in honour of the late former president and founder member Chris Stapleton.
“It is an honour for me to present the Chris Stapleton Cup to Clondalkin,” Clondalkin President Terry Woodhead explained.
“It was a great game and one everyone enjoyed. We are delighted to welcome Dungannon down here after the reception and treatment they gave us up there last year. Chris Stapleton played a vital role in the development of Clondalkin Rugby club and was a former President. This cup is just one way we can honour and remember him.”
