Rugby blitz attracts over 100 pupils to Balbriggan Rugby Club.
With the start of the season just beginning it was a great chance to get new rugby players down in Balbriggan RFC. It was great day for rugby, over 100 boys and girls converged on Balbriggan RFC for their eagerly anticipated Primary School tag rugby blitz.
The schools involved had just started a Play Rugby programme in there schools where many had not experienced the game before. Over the play rugby programme pupils from Bracken educate together and Naul National School will learnt all the skills necessary to play the game.
The morning kicked off and it was a nice sunny but cold day. It was a 6th class blitz which was played in Great Spirit. With all the children really enjoying the day and learned some new skills. All the matches were tightly contested. Balbriggans future is bright if these children join the club
A massive thank you must go to all the referees, teachers and principals for their help on the day and during the programme. Also, to Balbriggan for allowing the use of their facilities for the morning and the coaching work done by Glenn Predy of Leinster Rugby throughout.
If any other schools in the Balbriggan area would like to participate in similar programmes please contact Glenn Predy on 086 3994839 or email on BalbrigganCCRO@leinsterrugby.ie.
First contact session for St. Vincent’s primary school in Coolmine RFC
Coolmine RFC witnessed great quality rugby from St Vincent’s Primary School, Glasnevin which consisted of boys from 4th-6th class participated in a full contact training session in their local club.
The very talented young men started off their training session with a variety of general movement games to warm up and finished with a full contact match. Throughout the session, the boys went through some passing and tackling technique drills which the very eager St Vincent’s lads got the grips of with ease. As a result the full contact match at the end was great; bringing all the factors they have learned from the drills in to the game which saw a great standard of rugby.
Speaking with Coolmine CCRO Mikey Russell added, “Firstly, it’s great to see St Vincents Primary School down at the club playing rugby. To see the lads improve in such a short space of time is amazing. The future is definitely bright for both club and school”.
