Good Friday saw the Coolmine Under-21 squad (and a few senior members) embark on a tour to Huddersfield. With an early start the lads were in full flight from the off…

After getting to Huddersfield, they managed to go to a Huddersfield Giants Rugby League game and then out for a few refreshments on the Friday afternoon and night to take in all of the cultural offerings of West Yorkshire! Huddersfield YMCA were the opposition on the Saturday morning.

As a club they made Coolmine feel extremely welcome from the moment they got there.  The game was played in a fantastic spirit with both sides showing glimpses of free flowing rugby.  Nobody cared about the final score but suffice to say that it was one of the most entertaining matches Coolmine have played in recent months!  Both sides then retired to the bar for a few formalities and refreshments.

The Huddersfield lads really incorporating the Coolmine guys into their celebrations. Lions 1997 legend John Bentley, whose son was playing, even made an appearance and chatted with everyone at length. A great trip had by all and with many still recovering a few days later.  Huddersfield YMCA have promised to return the visit next year and hope to bring a few teams.

Coolmine look forward to their visit and to returning the hospitality which was extended to us in Huddersfield.

The Under-21s have one remaining match – the annual Miko Killarney Cup between Coolmine and Monivea, to be held in Ashbrook (date to be confirmed).
