The finals day has arrived in the Dublin City Council Cup and Shield, and will be held this Thursday 13th of February in the DCC pitches at Clontarf Road.
After three rounds of matches in the group stages, the last matches have been decided, with St. Kevin’s, Finglas playing St. Joseph’s, Fairview in the Shield final at 11:15am. The cups 3rd/4th playoff between Chanel College, Coolock and St Vincents, Glasnevin is down for 2:30pm and the DCC Cup Final is kicking off at 1pm and the participants in the big one are St Davids, Artane and St James’ CBS.
Over the course of the competitions there have been some excellent skills on show and the improvements of all the teams involved has been due to the hard work of all the teachers, along with the efforts of the players involved. The competition has been created to give non-traditional rugby schools another building block before the Development Cup, which we hope most of the schools will enter next year.
The players will also be fed into the DCC representative team, where they will get an extended period of coaching and that will initially be DCC North v DCC South and after they play each other, a squad will be picked to play against one of the big Dublin rugby schools and this year hopefully the team will play a similar project from Ulster also. The DCC team is another link before the players go into the club system and nine players from last years squad went on to play with clubs.
This is one of the many exciting programmes Leinster Rugby, in partnership with DCC, are running this season and for information on any of the other programmes contact Colm Finnegan, Community Rugby Officer for DCC North on 087-7692257, or at colm.finnegan@leinsterrugby.ie, or Billy Phelan, Community Rugby Officer for DCC South on 086-8688314, or at billy.phelan@leinsterrugby.ie.
