Robbie Henshaw, Jimmy O’Brien, and Rhys Ruddock have been named as the nominees for the Bank of Ireland Leinster Rugby Player of the Month award for December.

Last month saw Leinster pick up two bonus-point wins from the opening two rounds of the Heineken Champions Cup, before the St Stephen’s Day clash with Munster Rugby was postponed.

Robbie Henshaw

Robbie Henshaw made a big impact in both Champions Cup contests in December, playing every minute of both games.

The away trip to Montpellier in the opening round of Europe was Henshaw’s first appearance in blue since October. The clash with the French giants saw him make eight carries for a 40-metre gain while contributing eight tackles to the defensive effort.

He followed that up with another 80-minute performance against Northampton Saints the following week, making a staggering 16 carries for 52 metres and a further seven tackles.

Jimmy O’Brien

Kildare man Jimmy O’Brien put in a quality performance from full-back against Montpellier in what was his European debut.

O’Brien thrived on the Champions Cup stage, making 82 metres from 12 carries, beating three defenders, making one clean break, and scoring a try to complete a fine performance.

Rhys Ruddock

Can Rhys Ruddock make it a hat-trick of Bank of Ireland Player of the Month awards?

An outstanding start to the season saw our Official Members select Ruddock as the Player of the Month for both October and November, and he continued his excellent form with two top performances last month.

Ruddock contributed 24 carries and 19 tackles between the two games, as well as a smart assist for Ciarán Frawley to score his first European try against Montpellier.
