DLSP’s Child welfare office Katherina Purcell (and also the club’s Health & Safety Officer), recently spearheaded a very successful campaign to acquire a defibrillator to be located at Kirwan Park…

A qualified nurse, she was well aware of the many benefits of having a defibrillator in the club. With the backing of the powers that be, over €;3,500 was spent on a state-of-the-art defibrillator that now sits in the referee’s room.

She then set off to ensure that a panel of coaches and managers of all teams would be trained how to use it. Having recently trained the underage coaches, last Thursday (at the request of Director of Rugby Conor McCormick), she organised training for the adult mentors.

Also on the night, first team physio Dorieann gave a detailed training on the general do’s and don’ts of first aid to injured players.
