Leinster Rugby are committed to supporting the continuous education and development of coaches across all stages of the game (stage 1 to stage 4).

In addition to coaching courses for which coaches receive a formal award, we offer a variety of CPD workshops. These are designed to provide coaches with a range of knowledge and skills that both complement and build upon what they have learned through attendance on one of our coaching courses.

Information about the choice of workshops currently offered is detailed below:

Coaching Better Every Season – Dr Wade Gilbert

Target: Stage 2 to Stage 4 club and school coaches

Details: The secret to successful coaching is there are no secrets! No short-cuts, no magic formulas – just the time-tested enduring principles of quality coaching. In this interactive session, Dr Wade Gilbert will share the lessons learned from over 25 years of studying, teaching, and working with some of the most successful coaches around the world.

Date: Wednesday, 17 October
Venue: DCU, Collins Avenue, Glasnevin, Dublin 9
Time: 7pm to 8.45pm


Target: Stage 2 and Stage 3 club and school coaches

Details: This largely practical workshop is ideal in helping coaches prepare players to play in the front row. For coaches who are new to coaching the scrum or who are new to coaching the scrum at youth or adult level, this workshop is designed to promote recommended best practice when it comes to coaching safe and effective scrummaging amongst teenage and adult players.

GBA – Game-Based Approach to Coaching Practice

Over the past four seasons, Leinster Rugby have collaborated with St Mary’s University, Twickenham; to develop an explicit coaching and coach development strategy that is expressed in the work of all rugby department staff.

On foot of this ongoing collaboration with St Mary’s University, Leinster Rugby are offering a bespoke game-based and player-centred professional learning and development programme to school and club based coaches from across the province.
