Free Light Testing for Leinster Clubs’ Floodlights
September 9, 2011 12:00 am Richard Blake
Leinster Rugby, in conjunction with Musco Lighting, are offering the opportunity to have your Clubs floodlights tested. This service is free – there generally is a cost – to all Leinster Rugby Clubs who may wish to avail of this opportunity…
The process simply involves contacting Tom Mc Cabe of Musco on the below contact details and arranging a site visit. This test will give full clarity to the standards and quality of your Floodlights as of this season and provide the required compliance documentation for Leinster Rugby / IRFU.
Musco Lighting has offered to provide light performance testing (Floodlighting) to all affiliated Leinster Branch rugby clubs free of charge, regardless of what floodlighting system you have currently installed. Testing will be carried out in accordance with IRFU guidelines and a full report will be provided to your club upon completion. This report can then be submitted to Leinster Rugby for compliance approval.
Achieving appropriate light levels and uniformity (smoothness of light) is extremely important to the health and safety of the players, referees, and spectators. In addition, adequate light is vital to the player’s and referee’s ability to compete and officiate at a high level. Traditional lighting systems will depreciate over time (as much as 20% within the first 2-3 years of operation), so testing should be carried out annually to ensure the system is still operating within IRFU Guidelines. If your system is not in compliance, immediate steps should be taken to bring the system up to IRFU standards.
In addition to the light performance test report, Musco Lighting can provide options to bring your club’s system into conformance with IRFU Guidelines:
Light Levels and uniformity can be significantly improved by re-aiming and/or re-lamping the existing system.
If re-aiming/relamping will not provide enough improvement, the existing columns and foundations could still be utilized if deemed acceptable strength and height, and new floodlights mounted on the existing columns.
A complete new floodlighting system is an option if the existing system will never conform to IRFU standards or if the pitch does not currently have floodlights.
