After the launch of Railway Union’s new match standard floodlights last month, the first cup match will be played this coming Friday, 9th March as Railway 2nd XV play Millmount RFC in the first round of the Winters Cup…

The official first match that was played under the floodlights was left to the Railway Legends who played touring French side Les Zespoirs on Saturday 18th February, with huge crowds turning out for the occasion.

Since then the current teams have been training under the floodlights for the final league matches, but this Friday will be the first opportunity for the team to play a competitive match under lights.

With recent improvements in the weather, and forecasts for Friday predicting good conditions, a decent crowd is expected to turn out for the important match. All support, as always, is greatly appreciated and welcome. The Railway Union clubhouse will be open all evening, for post-match entertainment.

The club was delighted that its efforts at Carol Singing before Christmas helped raise the necessary funds to assist with the floodlight installation.  The club is very grateful for the support of the Leinster Branch Committee and the IRFU in granting a loan application for this major capital investment.

These changes and other improvements planned for the grounds this summer will mean there will be plenty more evening matches in Railway in the near future.
