After coming from winning the Junior Development Cup and also competing in the Section A league and cup semi finals a gallant Moyne Community School finished second best after a closely contested Leinster Schools Under-16 Fr. Godfrey Plate Final on Wednesday of last week at the Garda Rugby Club grounds in Dublin…
They were narrowly defeated by Wicklow opponents Presentation College Bray.
Moyne got off to the perfect start when Cathal McCabe intercepted the ball and gave off a fine pass to Aaron McGee who went over the line while Mark Hughes was on target for a fine conversion.
However, Bray hit back to score their first try and conversion on five minutes. But three minutes later Moyne went ahead once again when Ryan McGahern made a good break to go all the way over the line for a fine try that was converted.
Bray then got on top to add two further tries before half-time to leave Moyne trailing by 17-12 at the break but they got back on level terms two minutes into the second half when the lightning quick Ryan McGahern went over for his second try.
However, Bray replied with a further try and a penalty to lead by eight points but the gutsy Moyne side battled back with an excellent individual run yielding a third try for Ryan McGahern to close the gap but there were no further scores as Bray held out to win the plate final.
