Gorey Ladies defeated Wexford Vixens, in the Paul Flood Cup…

In what was always going to be a tough game in Clonattin. Wexford play in Div 2 and Gorey ply their trade in Div 3.

With the strong wind it was always going to be a forwards game & Gorey were missing crucial players for this cup tie. Gorey had the majority of the possession in the first 40 mins with most of the play being in Wexford’s half but it was the Vixens, through Maire Busher, that got the first try of the game but failed to convert.

The Gorey backs defended well and the centre partnership of Orla Power and Mary Cullen proved hard to beat throughout the whole game. Gorey came back with a lovely run from the out half Maeve Bolger who set up Lauren Farrell to score, which she also converted, giving Gorey a 2 point lead and what turned out to be the winning of the game.

Aislinn Bolger and Aoife Farrell carried great ball throughout the game. Gorey’s defence had to work really hard for the remainder of the second half to secure the win.

Player of the day went to Maeve Bolger who shone in her unfamiliar role at 10. Next up for the Gorey Ladies is Newbridge at home next weekend with the date yet to be confirmed.
