The Heineken Cup recently made a visit to seven schools in Gorey, Co. Wexford – Loreto, CBS, Gorey Educate Together, Gael Scoil, Tara Hill, Gorey Central and Ballygarret…
Ably escorted by some of the mini coaches, it was greeted by enthusiastic crowds of children whenever it went but it is probably safe to say that some of the teachers were more excited.
The mini coaches were slightly embarassed to be asked for autographs, but by the end of the day they give up explaining and just signed a scribble!
After a few hours rest it was off to Gorey RFC for a visit to the summer Tag. Again large crowds turned out to get their hands on the coveted trophy. This give an opportunity for many of youth players to come along and dream of what might be in the future.
Gorey President Ned Copeland said: “The visit to Gorey was important for the club as we look to encourage more members in what is a GAA dominated county. Our mini and youth players are the future of our club and hopefully our country. We need to give them as much encouragement as possible and seeing the cup in Gorey really lifted spirits.
“I would like to thank the Leinster Branch for all their efforts in facilitating the visit of the Heineken Cup. Gorey RFC would like to wish the Leinster team every success in the coming season”.
