The Ireland – England Rugby Legends series continues to tempt some of the greatest retired players to put their boots back on, face up to old rivals and raise invaluable funds for their teams’ nominated charities…
Ireland will be hosts for the 2013 Ireland v England Legends clash at Donnybrook the night before the two countries meet in the Six Nations at The Aviva Stadium in February.
Ireland v England Legends: Donnybrook; Saturday 9th February 2013; Kick Off 7.30pm.
The money raised from the match will be donated to the IRFU Charitable Trust and to the RFU Injured Players Foundation and RPA Benevolent Fund in England. The three charities raise money to help deal with life threatening injuries for both professional and amateur players within the sport.
The Legends aim to sell out this highly competitive clash with a capacity crowd at Donnybrook. The Irish will be challenging for The Stuart Mangan Memorial Cup, currently held by the English Legends who claimed the trophy at The Stoop this year.
Tickets will start at €;10, concessions/students and children €;5, and are now on sale from www.ticketmaster.ie, Spar Donnybrook and the Leinster Store.
Ireland’s team will again be led by Ireland and British and Irish Lion Shane Byrne, previously Leinster’s most capped player. His team will include such Irish legends as David Wallace, Nick Popplewell, Trevor Brennan, Mick Galwey, Malcolm O’Kelly, Eric Miller and Girvan Dempsey.
England’s team will be led by former captain and British and Irish Lion Martin Corry. Martin is joined by Jason Leonard, Lawrence Dallaglio, Kyran Bracken, Josh Lewsey and Austin Healy.
Speaking ahead of the game Shane Byrne said: “All the boys are looking forward to our return game and we are hoping for a capacity crowd at Donnybrook to watch us get our boots back on – as you can imagine we are in full training in anticipation of reclaiming The Stuart Mangan Trophy, well ……certainly in full training for the post match celebrations! To relive our younger days, have the opportunity to play old rivals and to be able to do so in aid of charities that allow all of us to give back to the rugby community is a great privilege and one which we hope you will share and enjoy …. See you there!”
With generous team sponsorship from reinsurance group Validus Re www.validusre.bm, this promises to be another fun fuelled memorable evening.
