Over 20 students from colleges throughout Leinster came together to take part in an IRFU Associate Referee Workshop held in DIT Aungier Street recently…

The Associate Referee Workshop which qualifies participants to referee training sessions, games and blitzes which their club are taking part in and focuses on developing the knowledge of safe practice by referees as well as the various rules of the sport, was delivered by David Keane (IRFU Referee Development Officer), and saw participants from DCU, NUI Maynooth, NCI and the hosts DIT among others.

The large attendance was a great indication of the interest in refereeing throughout the province and means that each of the represented colleges now has a pool of qualified and enthusiastic referees to call upon if and when it’s needed which is a great benefit to all involved.

Who knows, the next Alan Lewis or Alain Rolland may even have started on the refereeing pathway through the course!
