Ireland Under-20 captain, Nick McCarthy has been ruled out of the remainder World Rugby Under-20 Championship.

The Leinster Academy scrumhalf picked up a shoulder injury during the Ireland v New Zealand game, in the final round of the pool games.

Munster scrum-half Jack Cullen has been called up to the squad for the remainder of the tournament, while McCarthy’s UCD and Leinster team mate Josh Murphy will take over the captaincy responsibilities.

Ireland will play Wales on Monday, 15th June at 20.30hrs (19.30hrs Irish Time) in the 5th  place semi-final which takes place in Stadio Luigi Zaffanella, Viadana.
