Our Lady’s Grove Primary School recently hosted Leinster Rugby’s first DLRCC (Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council) ‘In-House Blitz’ touch rugby event.

After a slow start to the season, all is progressing in DLR as more and more schools are once again linking up with Leinster Rugby Community Staff in the area: Jonathan Sharkey (CRO), Emily McKeown (WDO) and Andrew Egan (Old Wesley RFC CCRO).

On Friday, 2 October, on the last day of their programme, Our Lady’s Grove Primary School was the first school in DLRCC to host an ‘In-House Blitz’ to reward the students for an excellent number of weeks working together.  It was a great way for Leinster Rugby Community Staff to see how far all the students have progressed and grown in the game of touch rugby.

The ‘In-House Blitz’ was attended by over 110 boys and girls from 5th and 6th class. Each class had its own pitch to play on, to stay in line with the school’s safety procedures.

Each pitch had a number of games per round where each team played an even amount of games.  The final round saw playoff games and the students showed nothing but respect for each other, as the day was all about being outside exercising, away from the class, while having fun and playing rugby.

The teachers assisted in creating teams, timekeeping and recording scores of the matches. A huge thank you to Mr O’Flaherty for taking charge of one of the pitches and for providing excellent support over the course of the programme.

The games were refereed by community staff and Mr O’Flaherty.  The cheers from the sideline really gave the players on the pitch a boost with everyone getting the chance to show what they were able to do with a rugby ball in hand.

The relationship between Our Lady’s Grove Primary School and Leinster Rugby’s Community Staff is in its second year, and we look forward to continuing our relationship into the future.
