The ‘Play Rugby’ programme went all Irish before Christmas as Scoil Neasain had a visit from the CRO for the area Jack Hanratty… Lá Rugbaí i Scoil Neasáin…
Hanratty said: “Having had the opportunity to be in a Gaelscoil we are hoping to have a play rugby Gaelscoil blitz in the near future”.
Here is Aisling Ni Laoghaire, 6th class thoughts of the day.
On the 9th of November, we met Jack our rugby coach for the day. Everyone was excited, as it was the first time that someone came to the school to teach rugby. Suddenly we started a warm up. We went down to the pitch as it was a warm day. We had great crack with Jack. He put us in groups and we learned how to side step. We had great fun going down the pitch, putting the ball behind our body, throwing it up in the air and passing to the person beside us. We had a race, everyone was running as fast as they could to the end of the line. Everyone was enjoying the day. We then learned how to do a switch with the player beside us. We then played a game of “Bulldog Charge”. It wasn’t long before Jack and the teacher were playing. It was coming near the end of the session so we played a game of “Rats and Rabbits”. Every rat had to escape from the rabbits before they caught them. At the end of the day we all helped Jack collect the equipment and we said our goodbyes. We had great fun during the rugby session and we will never forget it!

Ar an 9ú lá de mhí na Samhna, buaileamar le Jack, ár múinteoir rugbaí don lá. Bhí sceitimíní ar gach duine mar seo an chéad uair gur tháinig duine éigean le rugbaí a mhúineadh dúinn i Scoil Neasáin. Go tobann, thosamar an téamh suas. Síos na páirce linn mar a bheadh an chaor thine ann. Bhí an-chraic againn le Jack! Chuir sé muid i ngrúpaí agus d’fhoghlamar conas saghas damhsa rugbaí a dhéanamh. Ba mhór an spórt é ag rábáíl síos na páirce, ag luascadh an liathróid rugbaí timpeall ár gcromán, ag caitheamh go hard suas sa spéir é agus ansin an liathróid a thabhairt chuig an chéad duine eile sa líne. Rás a bhí ann, agus bhí gach páiste ag cur allais agus iad ag rith chomh tapa le damh chuig deireadh an líne. Bhí gach duine ag baint an-taineamh as an la! Níos déanaí d’fhoghlamar conas crios rubaí a chuir orainn. Bhí torainn na gcrios ag oscailt agus ag dúnadh ag líonadh an pháirc peile agus i bhfaite na súl bhí gach duine gafa i gcluiche díochra de ‘Bulldog Charge’. Ní raibh sé fhada sular ghlac Jack agus múinteori Orflaith páirt sa spraoi! Bhí sé ag teacht chuig deireadh an seisiún rugbaí agus chríochnaigh muid le cluiche Francach agus Coinín. Bhí ar gach francach éalú ón gcoiníní sula raibh greim ar an gcoinín ar chrios an fhrancaigh. Ag deireadh an lae, chabhraigh muid le Jack an trealamh a ghlanadh suas agus d’fhágamar slán leis. Ba mhór an spórt é an seisiún rugbaí a bhí againn agus ní dhéanfaidh muid dearmad ar riamh!
