Aware is one of Leinster Rugby’s two charity partners this season and the Christmas Run is a flagship fundraising event for Aware, raising about €60,000 for the organisation’s nationwide depression support, education and information services.
Online registration is available now on aware.ie for both 5k and 10k options, and participants are encouraged to further support Aware’s work by raising sponsorship for their efforts.
Speaking at the launch in Leinster Rugby HQ, Isa Nacewa said: “We are really proud to be associated with the Aware Christmas Run this year, not only because Aware is one of Leinster Rugby’s charity partners, but because the event highlights the really important link between physical and mental health.
“We all need to invest in our mental health and elements like focus, resilience and recovery are all essential to the professional rugby game and essential for life as well. We hope lots of rugby supporters will sign up to support the Aware Run this year.”
Aware is hoping for over 3,000 participants in this year’s Christmas Run.
Gerry O’Brien, Head of Fundraising and Business Development, Aware, said: “The organisation relies on events like the Christmas Run, along with public and corporate donations for 85% of its annual funding. The event offers participants the perfect excuse to do something fun, refreshing and beneficial for their own health while helping ensure that Aware continues to make a real difference in the lives of others throughout the year.
“As a result of this and other fundraising efforts, Aware is able to provide support services for individuals and families impacted by depression or bipolar disorder, as well positive mental health education programmes for students aged 15-18 and for adults. The lead-up to Christmas can be a stressful, harried time, and we hope this Saturday morning event gives people a chance to do something ‘feelgood’ for themselves in the midst of all the planning and parties.”
Registration for this event is €25 per person and chip timing applies. The race is run under AAI rules, and the event is proudly sponsored by Mondelez International and supported by 98FM and the Irish Independent.
