Last Friday Leinster Rugby were among four sports represented at Wicklow Local Sports Partnership primary teacher taster day in Shoreline Leisure Centre, Greystones, Co. Wicklow…

The event, which was organised Wicklow Local Sports Partnership in conjunction with various NGB’s of sport as well as other Wicklow based sports clubs, was a great success with 37 teachers being introduced to rugby, cricket, badminton and gymnastics.

Maurice Logue (CRO, Leinster Rugby) and Stephen Gore (CRO, Leinster Rugby) put the teachers through their paces, concentrating on skill development and fun games for students under the age of 12.

The training day gave a great opportunity for the teachers to be introduced to Stage 1 and Stage 2 levels. From a long-term player development programme perspective it also enabled schools and teachers to network with the NGB’s of sport and their respective Development Officers to further explore opportunities available to schools and teachers to participate in sport.

Leinster Rugby welcomed the opportunity to be involved in these taster days as a way to reach some of the schools in Wicklow who hadn’t previously played rugby.
