St Mark’s special school of Newbridge are currently partaking in the Leinster tag rugby program. The tag rugby program which is run by Leinster and Newbridge RFC CCRO Ben Swindlehurst is based on having fun and participation…
St Mark’s students take huge benefit from their participation in tag rugby and are seen as being a great outlet which caters for all abilities. As part of the tag rugby program St Marks will compete in a friendly yet no doubt fiercely competitive blitz. The blitz will be a first with schools from Portlaoise, Wexford, Arklow, Newbridge , Carlow and Kilkenny all participating.
The blitz will be held in Portlaoise RFC in April with the date yet to be confirmed. The blitz will have an added spin to it with each school choosing a rugby playing nation to be their own; this will entail dressing up in team colours. Prizes on the day will include the best dressed team, Fair play award, most skilful player of the blitz.
Newbridge CCRO Ben Swindlehurst had this to say on the upcoming blitz.
“ It’s great to have an event like this happening in the community , the kids will get a great buzz out of this and are very excited. The blitz is a great end goal and hopefully they will reap the rewards of all the hard work put in.
