Letter to Season Ticket holders from CEO Mick Dawson

Once again, on my own behalf and on behalf of everyone in Leinster Rugby, I would like to thank you for your support, understanding and patience during a very difficult period in the history of the organisation at a professional and domestic level.
Of course, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been felt across all sectors of Irish society and has been keenly felt by those most vulnerable and we continue to think of those most severely impacted by the virus over the last few months.
A lot has changed over the last while and there is still a lot we don’t know but as an organisation we feel that the time is right to make a number of decisions so that we may start to plan for the future.
You will have seen today a host of measures impacting the current season and also the season to come but we again feel that the time has come to offer as much clarity as we can, while also trying to secure the long-term viability of Leinster Rugby as an organisation.
For example, the cancellation of Season Tickets for next season is an unprecedented step given the huge investment of over €4,000,000 in grassroots rugby and in our communities each season. We simply cannot do that without the support of our season ticket holders and their renewals. The new Official Membership will allow us to offset some of that loss, but not all.
Indeed, on that note I would like to thank our sponsors and partners, in particular Bank of Ireland, for their unstinting support at a very difficult time for them also.
There is still a body of work to be done to complete the 2019/20 season but we are very much committed to doing so, albeit behind closed doors. Leo Cullen, club captain Johnny Sexton and indeed all the players and coaching team are working very hard in isolation to make sure that when we do come back, they will be ready to go.
And then we will start to plan for the 2020/21 season and again there is a lot of work underway to ensure that the Guinness PRO14 and the Heineken Champions Cup seasons will be as successful as they can be in this new sporting landscape.
I am sure you will still have many questions and our team at Leinster Rugby HQ are still working remotely but available by email while there is also a detailed FAQ on the website.
I would also like to invite season ticket holders to a virtual meeting with Leo Cullen and myself, where we will try to answer as many of your questions as possible and the team in head office will be in touch with a date and how to register for the meeting and how to submit your questions in advance.
