Last Saturday was an important day for OBRFC at Anglesea Road…
Apart from the fact that Belvo were home to Dungannon in Division 1B of the AIB AIL, the pre-match lunch was heavily represented by past pupils from St. Michael’s College C.S.Sp.
Tim Kelleher, Principal of St. Michael’s senior school was also in attendance as a guest of Club President, David Hargadan.
Among those present were Steve O’Leary and his wife, Georgina and their two boys, David, aged 5 and Michael, aged 3. Steve has been a member of Belvo since he left school and is currently chairman of Junior Rugby. David and Michael are now attending at mini rugby on Sundays, David playing with the under sixes while Michael gives his support, at least some of the time!
It was a tremendous moment for the O’Leary boys when they were asked if they would act as mascots for the day on Saturday. The level of joy and enthusiasm was obvious when Captain Andrew Dunne made the occasion very special when he led his team out on the field with the two boys beside him, one on either side.
Steven had said prior to the match that the boys were lucky to have around, because any time they were present on AIL days, Old Belvo won. This turned out to be true, at least on this occasion.
