Mullingar Rugby Football Club (Mullingar RFC) is holding an Open Day this Saturday aimed at young rugby enthusiasts aged between five and 18.

The club welcomes families to join the event taking place this weekend, from 9:30am to 11:30am, at Shay Murtagh Park, Cullionbeg, Mullingar.

Denis McDermott, the Leinster Mini Coordinator at Mullingar RFC, spoke to leinsterrugby.ie to give a taste of what people can expect at the Open Day.

“The Open Day is an exceptional opportunity for young people to discover the exciting world of rugby and everything that Mullingar RFC has to offer. They can explore our first-class facilities, witness training sessions in action, and potentially participate.”

The club has set aside two hours for the Open Day, ensuring that attendees have ample time to experience various aspects of the sport and the club’s facilities.

“We want everyone to have enough time to get a feel for the club’s ethos and camaraderie,” added McDermott.

Shay Murtagh Park, conveniently located at Cullionbeg, Mullingar, will serve as the venue for the event. The park is easily accessible, and there will be sufficient parking available for all attendees.

In August 2022, Leo Cullen and the Leinster senior squad stopped off at the club as part of their 12 County Tour and now the club will open its doors to others in the locality that might also be keen to check it out.

The Open Day represents a significant opportunity for families in and around Mullingar to engage with the sport of rugby and with the club renowned for its strong community spirit.

“Whether you have a budding rugby star at home or are completely new to the sport, everyone is welcome to come along and ‘Give It A Try’,” concluded McDermott.
