The Newstalk Towns Cup gets underway this weekend with the local derby in Beechpark between Cill Dara and Clane getting the action underway on Saturday evening (KO 5:30pm)…

The remaining games are on Sunday with West Offaly Lions making their debut in the prized tournament when they travel to North Kildare.

The holders Boyne, who are going for three in a row, were awarded a bye into the 2nd round along with Dundalk.

Runners up for the past two years and victors on four occasions Tullamore are at home to 10-time champions Navan, who are represented by their 2nd XV, while Co Carlow who top the Towns Cup roll of honour with 12 wins face a tricky task in Clondalkin.

Skerries will fancy their chances of adding to the 11 pennants that adorn their clubhouse even though they face a testy opener at the home of 5-time winners Kilkenny.

Portlaoise have won the Towns Cup on two occasions and they host Enniscorthy, another 2-time winner, in Togher.

There are 14 ties in all down for decision and with games spread throughout the province you could do a lot worse than pop into a game near you to experience the passion of one the oldest competitions in the country.
