The Old Belvedere Women’s Development team is celebrating a massive improvement as they are set to finish off their season in style…

The team followed up a 10-10 draw against Newbridge RFC with a resounding 31-0 defeat of touring side King’s College London.

There are two friendly games remaining and now the team feels that only two wins are acceptable.

The confidence in camp is at an all time high and the Old Belvedere Women’s Development side is aiming for a strong start to next season and has their sights set on promotion and some silverware.

As with most new ventures it’s not all plain sailing and there have been tough times for the fledgling Old Belvedere Development team. A challenging start to the season proved that there was a steep learning curve in front of them but the team took each defeat on the chin and was determined to learn from them.

Unfortunately a lot of players drifted off after Christmas; the winter training didn’t appeal especially as the cold snap prolonged and players were becoming ineligible as they were called up to the first team squad. Though the numbers had depleted, the team spirit did not and throughout it all a dedicated core group of players trained and, more importantly, recruited.

As the warmer spring weather came to Anglesea Road a revolution happened. Along with a new coach, the development team began to see more and more new players, one or two arriving with every training session! This influx of enthusiastic new players along with the continued heart of those who had battled through the season made for an exciting mix.

This was evident in the determination and fantastic team work in the last games of the season. As with all great teams the Old Belvedere development squad are still not happy; they want to improve, they want to get fitter, they want to recruit more players, they want to win and they want to get promoted next season.

The Old Belvedere Women’s Development squad would like to thank Captain Fantastic Mary McMahon and Coach Fantastic Mark Hill for all of their hard work this season.
