Old Belvedere Ladies rugby team has seen a dramatic growth in the last 12 months…

Last season, despite being newly promoted to AIL Division 1 the team decided to expand into a second development team and as a result Old Belvedere Ladies was the only team in Leinster to boast two teams.

With two teams taking to the pitch each week, Belvo’ is always keen to recruit new faces and players of all levels of experience are always welcome.

Last year’s Open Day was a great success with new players describing it as…”great fun and just like a tag session” and “a bit nerve wracking initially but the friendly welcome made it easier”.

Some of the player’s favourite things about rugby include the camaraderie, support, amazing parties, the sound of the studs on the concrete when leaving the changing room, the bit of nervous excitement before the match starts and the fact that sometimes you put your body on the line because not many other sports enable you to do that.

One of the highlights of the rugby season is the annual tour which took place this year in Dendermonde, Belgium.

So if you like the idea of a challenging, competitive sport, improving your fitness and learning lots of new skills while meeting new people then well maybe rugby is the sport for you!

The annual Open Day for new players is being held on Thursday, 18th August and if you have an interest in playing or even just finding out more, why not come along? If you can’t make the open day then the teams train every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm in Old Belvedere on Anglesea Road.
