This inaugural Leinster Senior League Shield Final, played on a cold day last Saturday in Donnybrook, was a free flowing and entertaining game yielding 5 tries with Old Wesley winning 25-16 over Greystones…

Wesley struck early with a forwards try credited to Matt Crockett. Greystones responded with a try and penalty by their lively left winger Andrew Kealy to take the lead briefly.

However a good individual try by centre Richie Jermyn, a conversation and 2 penalties by Barry McLaughlin to a further penalty by Kealy left the half time score 18-11 in Wesley’s favour.

The 3rd quarter was dominated by the Wesley pack but the ‘Stones defence held out and countered in the final quarter with a breakaway try by no. 8 Alan O’Toole reducing the deficit to 2 points. Wesley responded immediately with an intercept try by Ian Cassidy, converted by McLaughlin and held out comfortably to the end to win by 25-16.
