Leinster Rugby is deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Tallaght RFC Youth Development Officer Philip Preston.

The heartfelt sympathy of everyone at Leinster Rugby goes out to Aoife, Kayleigh, and all Philip’s family and friends at this difficult time. Phillip was a man-mountain with a heart of solid gold. His contribution to Tallaght RFC will never be matched on or off the field.

Philip’s commitment to his community was recognised by everyone in Tallaght last year when he was rightly appointed Tallaght Person of the Year.

Reposing at his home on Friday from 4pm to 7pm. Removal on Saturday to St. Mary’s Priory, Tallaght Village arriving for 11am Mass. Funeral immediately afterwards to Newlands Cross Crematorium.

“I’m completely devastated that our talisman has passed away and has been taken from us so abruptly and unfairly. The whole community will never come to terms with this loss; everyone in the club is absolutely devastated. We, as a club, will come together and offer whatever support is needed to Aoife and the entire Preston family. There will never be another Philly Preston; his boots are simply too big to fill.” – Ken Kinsella, President Tallaght RFC

“Tallaght has lost an icon. A man who gave up so much of his time and effort to greater his rugby club and his community. Rugby in Tallaght and in Leinster is devastated. Thoughts are with his wife, daughter and the rest of his family and friends at this time. Philip was a selfless and kind man who inspired so many young people. He will be greatly missed.” – Ken Moore, Leinster Rugby Community Rugby Officer
