On a wet and windy night in Donnybrook, over 1,000 supporters cheered on Leinster ‘A’ in their opening home match in this season’s British & Irish Cup.
This was the ‘A’ team’s first competitive game at home since defeating Leeds Carnegie in last season’s B&I Cup final in Donnybrook. It was also the first competitive game a Leinster team has played on the new surface in Donnybrook.
Two tries from Luke McGrath in the first half and 13 points from the boot of Ross Byrne gave Leinster ‘A’ a 23-3 lead going into the break. When Leinster returned for the second half the team had changed into the light blue away kit.
The match was delayed by 30 minutes because of the Jersey team’s flight in to Dublin being delayed. Despite the rescheduled kick-off time there was great support for the ‘A’ team at the 26-6 win over Jersey.
Girvan Dempsey’s men return to Donnybrook next month to face Carmarthen Quins. Before that comes the away fixture against Carmarthen next weekend. Click here to see the ‘A’ team fixtures.
There’s more rugby to come this weekend with Leinster facing Wasps in the new European Rugby Champions Cup in the RDS tomorrow at 5.15pm. Tickets are still available here.
Tickets can also be purchased from the RDS box office from 1pm on Sunday before the game.
