Leinster Rugby will host a webinar on the use of themes in rugby coaching. The webinar is aimed at youth, senior, performance, club, school and team coaches
The use of themes in rugby union coaching has increased in popularity over recent years.
But what exactly is theming? How is it practically applied? What works well? What has not worked well? What skills are required by the coach to successfully utilise the concept of theming within our coaching practice? All these questions and more will be discussed in the Live Webinar by our experienced and diverse panel.
The panel will consist of Jess Bunyard (Head Coach of Women’s and Girls’ rugby at Huddersfield RUFC and Editor of Women’s Rugby Coaching Magazine), Eoin Sheriff (Leinster Rugby Coach Development Officer), Declan O’Brien (Leinster Rugby Head of Coach and Player Development) and Kieran Hallett (Leinster Rugby Elite Player Development Officer).
The panel members will discuss their experiences (good and bad), as a player and a coach, of theming. They will provide contemporary examples and solutions as to how they currently integrate this concept into their coaching craft.
Bunyard is also a community coach and academy coach for Huddersfield RUFC and delivers rugby to local schools. She has coached for DPP and University rugby as well as being the editor of Women’s Rugby Coaching Magazine.
Sheriff is a former professional player with Leinster Rugby, Saracens and London Irish. Eoin is currently South East Region Coach and Player Development Officer with Leinster Rugby. He has been the forwards coach for the Leinster Youths since 2019 and is also head coach at Wanderers FC.

He was also assistant forwards coach to the Irish Women’s team winning the six nations in 2015.
On top of that, he is a qualified IRFU Tutor, a World Rugby Trainer as well as a Coach Developer Assessor with Sport Ireland Coaching. Over the last number of years he has recently qualified with an MBS in Business Practice with University College Cork through his studies with the Irish Management Institute gaining Diplomas in Leadership, Executive Coaching and Strategy and Innovation.
