Remember Us, an integrated group for young people/adults with special needs, in conjunction with Skerries RFC, have organised a “Weight Loss Challenge” which was formally launched by Bryan Cullen on the 17th January at Skerries Rugby Football Club.
This is a community project and four teams of five have been put together. Teams will compete against each other over a twelve week period which began in mid-January.
Each participant has a diet plan drawn up to meet their individual needs. In order to encourage the support of families, friends and the wider community, the Skerries Weight Loss Challenge will organise a community walk each week for the duration of the project. The first 5k walk took place on the 26th January and started in Skerries Rugby Club. Skerries local gym Well Fit are providing team mentors and training facilities.
Skerries Rugby Club mom of two, Marcella Byrne, is the leader of the “Blue Team”. During the first week Marcella and the other members of the programme have participated in a spin class and weights class supervised by their mentors at Well Fit gym. We caught up with Marcella before the first 5k walk on Sunday and I had a chat with her about her progress so far.
